Where the hell did the blogroll go? Now I have to go to my site to click on my favorite blogs. Not here (I don’t really keep up with my blogroll here) but on my normal Life With Buck blog. This bites.

Where the hell did the blogroll go? Now I have to go to my site to click on my favorite blogs. Not here (I don’t really keep up with my blogroll here) but on my normal Life With Buck blog. This bites.
I HATE, Hate, hate the new dashboard. Hopefully this feeling will fade with time, but so far, HATE IT!!!
@ Peter – I just read on the Forums that to get to your blogroll you go to Manage, then Links. What a pain in the ass. I’m gonna try your devil face now …
HEY! I did it! Awesome.
I hate it too. I’m too old for change. LOL
It’s a cleaner, more modern look, but as with any software, they should think about usability when they move everything all around. It never occurred to me to look for blogroll under links.
It took me months to memorize where everything was on the dashboard. Now I have to start all over. This sucks big time.
@ Alyson – Me too! I don’t like change unless it’s only as involved as moving my couch to the other side of the room. Anything else is too daunting and I don’t like it.
@ Little Miss – Yes, it’s a cleaner look. But if you read the Forums you discover this new look is filled with bugs they’re still working out. Why input something you know is filled with problems? Why not wait till a beta testing group has sorted through it all and given it a seal of approval? And I don’t think anyone would intuitively know to go Manage > Links to find their blogroll. I discovered that info on the Forums. I didn’t read a single fan of this new dashboard, every post was a complaint.
@ Joan – I know, me too! I’ve been blogging here for 8 months now and I’m still discovering how to do things. Now I have to figure it out all over again. Why did they do this? If it ain’t broke why fix it?! Except for the Blog Server, which was broke and still is. It doesn’t give me accurate information (when my favorite bloggers such as yourself have posted something new), and I still can’t delete blogs I put in there when I very first started blogging but don’t even read anymore. I can’t get rid of them, yet those are the blogs that show up with new posts every single day while my favorite bloggers often don’t show up at all!
Where is the frickin’ spell check button?? I’m glad you did a post on this. I don’t like it either! ARG!
@ Lucky – The spell check button had to be removed because there were so many bugs in it. They’re saying they’ll return it as soon as they work out the problems. This is what I mean about putting this new dashboard up when it still has so many obvious problems. Why the hell didn’t they wait? Not that I’d like it any better, but at least it would be fully functional.
If you really need spellcheck — and I certainly do — you’ll have to write your post in Word BUT DO NOT COPY AND PASTE DIRECTLY FROM WORD. Copy and past to Notepad (to remove all the formatting from Word), THEN copy and paste from Notepad into your WordPress post.
What a freaking pain in the ass.
(PS: I learned this little devil face from Peter Parkour)
I found that out the hard way. It took me FOREVER to get my shit to post last night. I was so pissed off by the time I got it up.
How do you make that face??? I NEED IT!
@ Lucky – I know, that face is pretty valuable. If you mouse over it, it will tell you the code. Basically it’s a colon, the word evil, and another colin. That’s it. You can try it here if you like, as often as you need to master it.
FREAKING WORDPRESS!
WOOOO!!!! It worked!
This is the nature of software. As soon as something gets stable, comfortable, and usable they “upgrade”.
I don’t think the new dashboard is that bad, but I did have to look in the forums to find out how to respond to comments in the way I have gotten used to. Other than that I’ve had not problems yet. Not crazy about the image uploading process.
Waaah.
@ Lucky – Now that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!
@ David – I haven’t even tried uploading images yet. I saw that Curious C was having trouble loading images, but she finally got if after reading the Forums. I’ve been writing these posts on WordPress since the change, but I’ll probably continue to use Windows Live Writer to write longer posts. I hope it still works now that these changes have been made.
but linking? Since this is turning into a WP educational forum, it seems, how do you link inside a comment? THANKS!!! and the image upload issue I had was due to non-latest version of Adobe flash. fyi.
@ Curious C - The way that I link inside a comment is this:
I am at, say, your blog and I’m writing a comment and want to add a link. A clean link, without a bunch of crap around it.
I open a second, new tab in my browser and to go to my own Life With Buck dashboard, then to “Write A New Post.”
At “Write A New Post” I type in the word or sentence I want people to be able to click on.
I click on the add link icon (which looks kind of like two paperclips together, or a chain that’s linked). A little window opens; that’s where I paste in the link. You’re just adding the link same as you would if you were writing a post.
Then I look at the upper right corner and see a tab that says I’m on “Visual” and can go to the second tab labeled HTML. I click over to the HTML view. In the HTML view, WordPress has coded the link for you. I copy this by highlighting it and then hitting CTRL C.
I return to the comment I’m writing on your blog and paste it in by hitting CTRL V. Then I continue with the comment.
NOTE: Your view of the comment will show all the HTML code, but after you hit “Submit Comment” the code will be hidden. You’ll see the word as a highlighted link.
Feel free to test it out here as much as you need to until you get it.
Ok! I’ll test soon…
Well?!
and thank you for sharing…
AND! May I add,
you are a fashion super star!!
