Late this morning I made oatmeal the old-fashioned way, on the stove. It was okay, but nothing to blog about.
Then around 1 PM I was hungry again, so I told my kids to get me an Ultimate Cheeseburger Meal at Jack In The Box. It was pretty good. I liked it, but I didn’t finish it.

Oh my god, that oatmeal sounds like a great idea. Like you, I prefer the stove top method to the microwave (or whatever the kids are calling it these days). And they say it’s good for you, too. (The experts, not the kids)
OK, here’s how I do the breakfast oatmeal. Wilford Brimley does not know this recipe. It sounds complicated, but only if you are in a diabetic coma.
I use organic rolled oats, bought in bulk from the co-op or health food store, should cost around $1/lb. (Quaker Oats cost over $3.) I also use Bob’s Red Mill Flaxseed Meal.
Night before breakfast to be eaten:
In fairly large (1qt) microwavable bowl mix
1/3 cup rolled oats
1T Flax meal
1 1/3 cup water
Microwave 2 min on high, then cover bowl with a plate.
Next morning, remove plate, zap another 4 min, remove from microwave, burn hand (use other hand next day), cover with plate, go do morning stretching, exercising, vomiting, whatever, allowing cereal to cool.
Eat with 1 piece of fruit and/or plain low fat yogurt. Squirt weird shit on cereal when in weird mood, e.g. Tabasco, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup, Honey, Molasses, Coal Tar, Red Dye #3 (not for ADHD folks).
ENJOY!
@ David – I’m going to buy the stuff to try your recipe. I’m in the mood to change my eating habits. Okay, it’s not a mood so much as a fear, a fear that if I keep on the way I’m going I’ll have a huge problem. And it will be me.
@ Wendy: So you’re doing the autocommentarianism too, eh? Ha!
This is a fun blog! I’m sticking with my breakfast pickles though.
I’m so used to doing the “@ so and so” thing that now I’m doing it on other people’s blogs. Sorry!
There’s also the vodka cigarette butt smoothie!
Oh yeah! How could I *hic* forget?
See, the vodka and cigarette butt smoothie is really more my speed, but I’m willing to try the oatmeal and flax meal. Perhaps I’ll whirl them all up together.
The oats, flax meal, bicycling and stuff help me to feel less guilty about the vodka and cigarette butts. And have provided bottom line improvements on important indices like cholesterol, etc. And I can has cheezburger too!
